The Fondation
Historical Background
This foundation was established in 2015 in memory of a legend; Mama Feresi Kamazoba Kabandwa who’s sunset on 19th June 2014.
A mother of a generation, Mama Feresi deeply loved God and her community and had her home opened to the world. She succumbed to pneumonia with suspected underlying lung cancer at 84 years of age. Her last two weeks on earth, while on life support at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital were transformational.
It presented a unique opportunity for her community to bid her farewell and for her to do the same. “Open your homes my children, open your homes to God’s people” is what she left us with. Her husband, George Kabandwa, 103 years strong now, saw light even in his dark times, he saw an opportunity to better his community.
As he eulogized his wife, Taata George Kabandwa, a humorous man sent the mourners into laughter when he requested one of his grand daughters’, Dr. Brenda Ainomugisha, a medical doctor to relocate and establish a big hospital in this village community so that his community would also access the wonderful services that his wife had got while at Mbarara Regional Referral hospital. In honour of Mama Feresi and Taata George Kabandwa, within a period of 9 months (September 2014 – May 2015), the Feresi Memorial Foundation was birthed.
The foundation immediately took on the project of setting up a medical center and on 19th June 2015, a year after the passing of Maama Feresi, Feresi Memorial Medical Center was established. This was made possible through Dr. Brenda’s two-year employment savings and the overwhelming support of the great Kabandwa family and friends. “This is tremendous”, exclaimed Mr. Masereka; the Mbarara District health inspector then as he toured the facility which he scored very highly. Following, his recommendation, Feresi Memorial Medical Center was then licensed to operate by the Uganda Medical and Dental Practioners council.
“What a memory of the great Hero; Mama Feresi Kamazoba Kabandwa. What a privilege for the people of Ihunga village, entire Rwampara district, Uganda and the world. An unstopped seed has been planted, a dream in evolution”.
